DESCRIPTION | This course serves as a gateway to basic chemical theories and principles, demonstrating a microscopic view to the materialized world that built from atoms. Starting from chemical notation and units, lectures will introduce nuclei structure and elemental periodicity, redox reactions, basic inorganic and organic substances with associated chemical bonding and forms, fundamental properties of gases, acid/base theories, chemical kinetics and equilibrium, principles of thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. DESCRIPTION | This course is designed for students we have acquired solid chemistry knowledge in high school (e.g., HKDSE 1.0X Chemistry, Mainland Gaokao Chemistry, etc.) and intend to pursue a degree related to chemistry (including but not limited to materials, energy, biology, environment, manufacturing, etc.). It is Part I of the Chemistry fundamental course (Honors Chemistry I/II). The course is modularized into 3 sections to accommodate the teaching and learning needs of students from different departments. DESCRIPTION | The UFUG 1504 is a more challenging version of UFUG 1502. It intends to provide a solid foundation to students who wish to take more advanced physics related study and research in the future. The course consists of three modules, which are Module 1: Electrostatics and Circuit, including Coulomb’s law, Electric Fields, Gauss’s Law, Electric potential, Capacitance, Current and Resistance, and Circuits; Module 2: Magnetism and Electromagnetics, including Magnetic Fields, Magnetic Filed due to Currents, Induction and Inductance, Electromagnetic Oscillations, and Maxwell’s Equations, Electromagnetic Waves; Module 3: Optics and Modern Physics, including Images, Interference, Diffraction, Photons and Matters Waves, and Atoms. In addition to the lecture, students are required to take 3 experimental sections. |

It will cover the following topics: an introduction to computer science, including an overview of its principles and concepts; the basics of data analysis, including methods for collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; an introduction to artificial intelligence, including an exploration of its various applications and capabilities; and an examination of how computer science, data analysis, and artificial intelligence can be used in combination to solve real-world problems. DESCRIPTION | This course introduces students to economics. It consists of three modules: basics of ecomomics (Module1), microeconomics (Module 2) and macroeconomics (Module 3). Module1 covers the basic principles of economics, supply, demand, market equilibrium, welfare, market failure, and the rationale for government intervention. Module 2 covers the optimal decision of consumers and firms, market power and different market structures, Labor markets and inequality, etc. Module 3 includes measuring aggregate economic activities, consumption and investment, money and financial intermediaries, aggregate demand, aggregate supply and business cycles, macroeconomic stability policy, and economic growth. |
